The leg of Ravensbruck survivor Jadwiga Dzido (shown here) and deliberately infected the wound with bacteria, dirt, and glass slivers to simulate a battlefield injury. They then treated the wound with sulfanilamide drugs
A method the Nazis used during the Holocaust was medical experiments. The Nazis doctors would perform horrible procedures on the Jews and the doctors wanted to see how far the human body could possible go. The doctors had an unlimited amount of subjects to perform these experiments on. The doctors would go as far as freezing the victims to see what the body could take, all the way to cutting open the victims without anesthesia to see how long the victims could go. Some of the experiments were to help and benefit the German Armed Forces. They wanted to do some of these things to see what measures the soldiers could go to, without dying. One experiment that was to help the German Armed Forces was the bone, muscle nerve regeneration and bone transplant experiment. The experiment started in September 1942 and lasted till December 1943. The doctors did this experiment to study bone, muscle nerve relegation and bone transplant from one person to another. Pieces of bones, muscles, and nerves were removed from the victims. The pain the victims had to go through was excruciating. Sometimes the victims where permanently disabled from the procedure (Holocaust Medical Experiments).
Another experiment was called the genetic experiment. This experiment was the requirement of the measurements of the head, eyes, nose, and blood. The major groups of this experiment was to refine the master race and to determine the cause of defects. Mengele which was the doctor who did this experiment injected chemicals into the eyes of children in an attempt to change their eye color (Holocaust Medical Experiments).
A second experiment was the experiment on the twins. When first taken the twins were examined from head to toe, and measurements everywhere were taken. Unlike the prisoners the twins were aloud to keep their hair, that is only for the first couple of weeks of examination. The twins then were looked at more closely. The head examination took the longest which took days. The twins were then x-rayed from head to toe. Once being x-rayed the examination consisted of tubes being forced through their nose and then into their lungs. Then gas was ventilated though the tube to their lungs, this caused them to cough severely which made them have to be restrained. The sputum from the lungs then was collected. Once having done that the twins were then put into a tube of very hot water. The twins had to sit in the water, which was so hot that would make them almost pass out. After being pulled out of the water they then were strapped to a table where there hair was plucked because the doctors were trying to save the root of the hair. They would repeat this method several times until they had enough hair. Then the twins were shaved. After a couple of weeks of torture the twins were then killed at the same time by an injection into the heart (Holocaust Medical Experiments).
Another horrible experiment was the freezing/ hypothermia experiment. This experiment was to reenact the conditions the German army suffered in the Eastern front. There was two parts to this experiment: the first part was to establish how long it takes to lower the body temperature until death. Second was to see what was the best way to revive a frozen victim. The freezing experiment has two methods that the nazis would use on the victim. The first method was put the person into icy cold water. This method proved to be the fastest way to drop the body temperature. For this method the person had a probe put into the rectum then put into the cold water. For all victims when the body temperature reached 77 degrees Fahrenheit they lost consciousness and died. The second method was to put the person outside naked in freezing temperatures. The victim was strapped to stretcher and then were placed in the sub zero temperatures (Holocaust Medical Experiments).
The nazis used many methods as well as experiments. The first method was the Sunlamp revival method. The victim was placed underneath sun lamps which were so hot that they would burn the skin of the person. One victim was repeatedly cooled with icy cold water then burned by the sun lamps. Another method the doctors used was the internal irrigation method. The frozen victim would have water heated to a blistering temperature forcefully inserted into the stomach, bladder, and intestines. All victims appeared to have died from the treatment. The final method that was used was the hot bath revival method. The victim was placed in warm water which it's temperature would slowly be increased. This method proved to be the best, though many victims died do to shock if they were warmed up to quickly (Holocaust Medical Experiments).

Nazis at Ravensbruck concentration camp amputated limbs from prisoners in useless attempts to transplant them onto other inmates. Many of the victims perished as a result.
